At 36, Cameron Diaz understands that people are beginning to wonder if she’ll ever start a family. Just don’t expect any definitive answers from her.

“I’m not somebody who is going to declare either way if I’m absolutely going to or I’m absolutely not going to have children. I have no idea,” the actress tells Parade in this Sunday’s issue. “I’m still young. I have an unbelievable life. In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children.”

Not that she’s necessarily opposed to the idea. “I don’t think it’s a compromise to have children,” she says. “Everything I’m bringing into my life right now isn’t geared toward that. It might be one day.”

The star of the upcoming summer tearjerker My Sister’s Keeper, whose exes include Jared Leto and Justin Timberlake, and who’s been linked most recently to British model Paul Sculfor, also offers a philosophy on dating.

“I think that what I’ve found, in my experience, is that you always find the person who you’re meant to be with at that time in your life,” she says. “And what I’ve also found is that you have to move on from those people at certain times, because that’s the way it happens.”

But despite her several high-profile breakups, Diaz insists she remains smitten with the opposite sex. “I’m not a man-hater,” she says. “It’s just not in my nature. I think guys are amazing. I love the dichotomy, the differences in men and women. I think it’s wonderful.”

On a more somber note, the actress also elaborates on how her father’s death in April 2008 has affected her, both personally and professionally.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a part of all of the roles that I play now,” she says. “It’s been a year since he died, and it’s been an incredibly transformative year. It’s just something that’s going to be with me forever.”

The twosome had dinner before shopping at American Rag, with plenty of canoodling and kissing in front of the cameras in between.
