With the holidays just around the corner, our favorite stars are already starting to celebrate.  And last night Madonna and Rihanna were spotted at Gucci’s swanky dinner at the Plaza Hotel.

The “Umbrella” babe and her “Material Girl” pal hammed it up for the paparazzi at the Tattoo Heart Collection launch to benefit UNICEF, with Madge sporting a frilly green sleeveless minidress with fishnet stockings and strappy heels, while Rihanna rocked a sexy lavender gown complete with a plunging backline.

Though Madonna has spent much of her nearly-8-year marriage to filmmaker Guy Ritchie in London, don’t expect her to settle there after her world tour ends later this year.

“Madonna is a New Yorker,” says one source close to the Michigan-born singer. “She will probably want to raise the kids in New York.”

The pop star – whose rep, Liz Rosenberg, confirms the split with Ritchie but tells the Associated Press that a settlement “has not been finalized” – has homes in New York City, Los Angeles, London and in Wiltshire, England. Read more…

Express Yourself? Not so much.

Madonna took to the stage in Boston Wednesday – the same day she announced the demise of her seven-and-a-half year marriage – but kept mum on her marital woes.

The 50-year-old singer tore through her athletic, two-hour set with her usual enthusiasm, as 30,000 fans at the TD Bank North Garden cheered her on.

The closest Madonna came to mentioning her soon-to-be-ex, Guy Ritchie, or her marriage came while introducing the song, “Miles Away.” As she has in previous shows on her Sticky and Sweet Tour, she dedicated the song to the “emotionally retarded.”

“You may know a few people like that,” she said. “God knows I do.”

Earlier this year, Madonna told Elle magazine, that the song – which includes the line “When I’m gone you’ll realize/That I’m the best thing that happened to you” – was inspired by her director husband. Read more…

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie are ending their almost-eight-year marriage, a rep for the singer confirmed Wednesday.

“The main concern for Madonna and Guy are their children – the security of their children in all senses of the word and the wellbeing of their children,” rep Liz Rosenberg tells people. “That’s the priority for both of them moving forward. It’s a sad situation.”

The former couple, who have Rocco, 8, and David, 3, together and Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter Lourdes with ex Carlos Leon, announced their divorce in a statement.

“Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time,” says the statement. Read more…

They stepped out in New York last week in an unconvincing show of togetherness.

Now Madonna and Guy Ritchie are planning another staged show of unity this side of the pond, I can report.

The 49-year-old singer, who has publicly denied that her seven-year marriage is on the rocks, has agreed to support her husband on the red carpet at the London premiere of his film RocknRolla.

And she plans to be with Guy for his 40th birthday on September 10.

Friends last night insisted the arrangement is little more than a publicity stunt and say the couple, who have already divided up some of their assets, are still on the rocks.

But Madonna, who is currently based in America, which she wants to make her permanent home, has agreed to return to London in September for the film launch.

She will also be at Guy’s 40th, expected to be an Irish-themed bash at the couple’s Wiltshire home.

‘They have had quite a few rows over whether Madonna should be at the premiere,’ I’m told.

‘She wanted to stay away because she feels that this movie is about Guy, not her, and she is still reeling from Guy’s behaviour at the Cannes Film Festival.

During the premiere of her movie I Am Because We Are, he refused to speak to the Press, and looked like he didn’t want to be there.

‘Madonna has said she will come, but she won’t be doing any interviews on the red carpet and the night won’t be about her.’

A second source close to Madonna, who embarks on her Sticky And Sweet tour in Cardiff on August 23, confirms: ‘Madonna has rearranged her schedule to attend both Guy’s premiere and his birthday. She will be performing at Wembley on September 11 which will allow her time with Guy and the children for his birthday.

‘During the week of Guy’s premiere, she will be in Germany and Rome but both dates will be via London.

‘Guy expects her to be at the premiere. He has put so much into this project. RocknRolla is actually named after their children Rocco and Lola.’

Meanwhile, Madonna is doing nothing to quash rumours about her budding friendship with American baseball star Alex Rodriguez and is helping him look for a New York apartment.

‘Madonna knows exactly what she is doing when it comes to looking for a bargain – so she’s more than happy to help Alex find a place of his own,’ says my spy.

Let’s just hope it’s not in the same block as Mr and Mrs Ritchie.

Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow engaging in some same-sex smooching? Kiss those loose-lipped allegations goodbye!

A source close to the two insists Madge and the Oscar-winning actress never shared the on-the-mouth kiss that Madonna’s brother Christopher Ciccone reportedly alleges in his upcoming memoir, Life With My Sister Madonna.

Ciccone claims that his sister once planted a passionate lip-lock on Paltrow in the wee hours during a New Year’s party thrown by Donatella Versace.

But an eyewitness at the soirée insists nothing of the sort ever happened. “I was at that party and did not see anything at all like what was described,” the partygoer says.

So far, celebs who Ciccone apparently dishes about in the book are keeping silent.

Paltrow’s rep declined to comment. Madonna’s ex-boyfriend Warren Beatty isn’t saying anything either regarding Ciccone’s story that Beatty once cornered him and grilled him on what it’s like to be gay. However, Madonna’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, cracked to the Associated Press, “There is no subject that doesn’t fascinate Warren Beatty.” Now, the big question: Will the book fascinate people enough to actually buy it when it’s released July 15? Other anecdotes reportedly include Madonna once calling her ex-husband, Sean Penn, “a paranoid control freak” (crickets from Penn’s rep, too), and Demi Moore dancing with Ciccone at a drag queen club. If this is the juiciest of the book, Life With My Sister ain’t exactly sounding like Madonna Dearest. “It’s all too silly and a bit sad,” a source said. “Poor Christopher seeking attention.” A rep for the book declined to comment. Rosenberg told the AP that Madonna has not read the book. “I would have to assume she has come to terms with the fact that they do not have a close and loving relationship,” she said. “And with the book coming out, I assume that will remove the chances of that ever happening.” In happier times, Ciccone worked closely with his sister, directing her Girlie Show tour in 1993 and designing her Upper West Side apartment in New York City. He’s currently putting together a pitch for an interior-design reality show.

Cameras started to roll today on the video that Britney Spears is making for Madonna’s upcoming Sticky & Sweet tour, which, sources tell E! News, will be the opening video for each show.

The “Are you ready to rumble?!” video, if you will.

The shoot took place today at the Lot in West Hollywood, the former site of Warner Hollywood, United Artists and the Samuel Goldwyn Studios.

An on-set source said that Britney arrived at around 9 a.m. and was holed up in her dressing room by 9:30. The “Toxic” singer didn’t start shooting her scenes until noon.

According to our insiders, the planned “short movie” will take place inside an elevator, where seven cameras will be strategically placed to capture the magic. The scene-by-scene breakdown goes like this:

Britney, partially disguised by a gray hoodie, walks into the elevator. As she starts traveling upward, she seems particularly nervous and anxious. The popster starts pacing back and forth. Then she progresses to kicking and smacking the walls, all frantic-like. She screams into one of the cameras. Then she starts climbing the wall, pulls down her hood and, into another camera, says:

“It’s Britney, bitch.”

Well, at least she shouldn’t have trouble remembering her lines.

We’re told that the 26-year-old mother of two acted “very professional” throughout and, a day after the shoot was postponed due to technical difficulties, everything seemed to be back on schedule.

Meanwhile, despite rumors that Madonna was going to wing her way West for a quick set visit, the Material Girl stayed put in New York today. According to a witness privy to her comings and goings, she went to her studio this morning and then returned to her Manhattan apartment.

Where, if Madonna weren’t used to the current tabloid climate, she would have bolted the door, drawn the shades and pulled the covers over her head.

An undercover Madonna faces waiting photographers Monday as she leaves her apartment in New York City, where she’s rehearsing for an upcoming tour. The singer, who recently issued a statement to people that she and husband Guy Ritchie are not divorcing, denies playing a role in the demise of baseball star Alex Rodriguez’s marriage.

Alex Rodriguez’s relationship with Madonna was “an affair of the heart” – not “sexual infidelity” – according to Cynthia Rodriguez’s lawyer.

Still, the baseball star’s relationship with the singer “was the last straw” before the Yankee slugger’s wife filed for divorce Monday, her Houston attorney, Earle Lilly, tells people.

Lilly says that A-Rod was smitten with Madonna, but makes no claim of any sexual liaison. “The correct analysis is a relationship,” he says. “Some people categorize an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We’re not claming that. It’s an affair of the heart.”

Over the weekend, Madonna issued a statement to people denying a romantic relationship with the baseball star, saying, “I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage.”

In fact, “Madonna’s name is not even mentioned in the papers,” says Lilly. “We don’t want the public to think this is an aggressive action against Madonna.”

Still, Lilly maintains that A-Rod has behaved badly for “a good while” and his client, Cynthia Rodriguez, has had enough. “She’s just a Greek Orthodox lady who has had as much as she can take,” he says.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, Cynthia’s Miami attorney Maurice Kutner filed the divorce petition.

“This is an action for dissolution of marriage, which is being filed only after [Cynthia Rodriguez] has exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage of the parties,” the document reads. “However, Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him.”

Without naming any names, the document states, “The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct.”

The couple were married Nov. 2, 2002 in Dallas. They have two daughters, Natasha, 3, and Ella, 2 months.

Both Lilly and Kutner maintain that their client hopes to settle the divorce as amicably as possible.

“Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and protect her children and herself,” Kutner said shortly after filing the papers. “She wants to resolve the issues between Alex and herself in an amicable fashion.”

A lawyer reportedly representing Alex Rodriguez did not immediately return calls for comment.
