Amidst all of the media attention surrounding the Benji/Paris breakup news, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were spotted enjoying a sushi lunch in the San Fernando Valley yesterday afternoon (November 19).

The “Simple Life” starlet and her “I Don’t Wanna Fall in Love” boyfriend looked cool and casual as they passed the paparazzi, with Nicole sporting a blue printed top, jeans, and sandals, while Joel deviated from his usual all-black ensemble with a grey plaid button-up shirt overtop a grey t-shirt.

She purees her own green beans and records her daughter’s every smile in a journal – making her “the best mom I’ve ever seen,” Joel Madden, speaking in people’s latest cover story (on sale Friday), raves about girlfriend Nicole Richie.

Richie and Madden just moved into a new L.A. home after spending the summer touring with Madden’s Good Charlotte band, and are in the midst of organizing an Oct. 19 walk in L.A. to help end family homelessness. But when they spoke with people, what they really enjoyed talking about was their 9-month-old, Harlow.

Joel Madden, rocking 6-month-old daughter Harlow to sleep in his arms while waiting to board his flight back to L.A. from Dallas with Nicole Richie. “Nicole was smiling and literally skipped over to Joel, and he handed Harlow to her,” says an onlooker. “They looked like an adorable family.” When it was time to take off, the happy family – plus a younger, tattooed guy and an older blonde female companion – took their seats in first class. “The baby was wide eyed, watching everyone walk onto the plane.”

Whether they’re bff’s or frenemies, there’s never a dull moment for Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Unless of course you watched The Simple Life, but we digress…

The latest rift is that Paris and Benji Madden moving in next door to Nicole and her baby daddy (Benji’s twin bro’ Joel) has transformed their suburban Glendale serenity into tiresome gossip-hound squalor. A pal of Richie’s tells Page Six:

“Nicole moved out there to get away from the paparazzi, but when Paris calls them they come to her quiet street and disrupt everything. She’s getting a little fed up.”

Trouble in paradise? Sure, but that’s just par for the course. These two are always having some kind of episode. Were just happy it’s not another episode of their show.

Nicole Richie is preparing to tell the truth—to an extent.

The former Simple Life star exclusively tells E! News that a TV show based on her 2005 coming-of-age novel The Truth About Diamonds is in the works and she’s gearing up to be a part of the production.

“I would definitely produce and definitely be in the show,” the socialite says, although she stopped short of saying she would play the lead, adding, “I don’t know if I need to be the star of this show.

“I’ve got a lot going on right now.”

Richie’s thinly veiled memoir tells the story of twentysomething Chloe Parker, who was adopted by a music superstar when she was 7 and as a young adult finds herself running with an elite Hollywood party crowd in between run-ins with the police, tabloid rumors and a stint in rehab.

Throughout, Chloe struggles to maintain her integrity and sobriety as the people she thought she could trust angle to get a piece of her.

“The reserved plaque on the table had ‘Rock Royalty’ written on it…all of us had connections to the recording industry, which was the glue that held us together. We were less like friends and more like a dysfunctional support group,” reads one passage.

When Richie penned the book, she still had a few trials and tribulations to go, such as her breakup with then-fiancé DJ AM and her 2006 DUI bust when she was caught driving on the wrong side of an L.A. freeway.

But Richie has added some much more flattering credits to her résumé since then.

She’s still very much in the public eye but has also cofounded, with live-in beau Joel Madden, a charitable foundation to honor their now-7-month-old daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, and she’s currently working on her second book.
